Healthy plants and trees develop from healthy soil. Soil is the key to developing a healthy
landscape and the food we require to live a healthy life. Our approach is predicated on
developing healthy soils for the right conditions your plants, trees, and vegetables
require to not only survive, but to thrive. Healthy plants and trees are much more
capable of fending off pests and disease when they are growing robustly from living in
healthy soils.
In most cases, plants and trees require only regular and ample applications of mulch to
ensure plant health over the long-term. The best mulch is developed from wood chips
and other landscaping clippings. As this material is broken down by worms, beneficial
fungi and microbes, it feeds your plants and builds humus in the soil. We engage only in natural fertilization and soil building methods as part of our plant
health approach. Instead of applying polluting, synthetic fertilizers on shrubs and trees,
we use only natural products that help build the soil while giving your plants everything
they need toward becoming vigorous and healthy.
Insofar as trees and shrubs are concerned, the emphasis on mulching techniques is
the key. We have natural mulching products that are economical. Further, as mulch
breaks down, microorganisms and beneficial fungi are allowed to flourish. In contrast,
harsh synthetic fertilizers damage these microscopic organisms.
To save money and resources, many shrubs and trees require only periodic applications
of mulch to become vigorous and healthy as they can be.
Turf
The typical Florida landscape has too much area of turf, and too little in the way of plant, tree, and attractive ground covers. is one of the most difficult to maintain because of the common cultural practices devoted toward creating a lush lawn: heavy and frequent watering, intensive applications of synthetic chemical fungicides, insecticides, fertilizers, etc. Under this regimen, the lawn becomes obese, and evermore dependent on these harmful and unnecessary inputs to look attractive. What is insane and absurd is the fact that pests that attack your turf become resistant to the chemicals used, and even more strong and dangerous concoctions are required to keep the pests at bay. Like humans, these types of high maintenance, chemical laden lawns need to be put on more healthy diet program.
As with all plants, a certain degree of stress is beneficial. St. Augustine turf can be
stressed by watering in longer intervals, and watering deeper. A natural program can
be engaged to transition your turf into one more capable of warding off pests and
fungus damage. But this process is a transition process--don't panic and apply
synthetic chemicals the first sign of decline. In many cases, the existing St. Augustine
lawn can become much more pest resistant and capable of withstanding prolonged
drought--without synthetic chemicals that hinder beneficial organisms that develop naturally to create a healthy balance. The deeply rooted turf is the most resilient in the face of pests and
fungus.
We recommend that St. Augustine turf be phased out and replaced by species of grass
that are just as attractive, as well as drought tolerant. For example, many wealthy,
upscale homeowners are starting to transition away from St. Augustine and replacing
turf areas with Empire Zoysia, Bahia, and Bermuda. These species of turf are far more
resilient, and can be incorporated to develop a handsome lawn.
Consider reducing the amount of turf that presently exists. Attractive, tough ground
covers, drought and cold tolerant landscaping plants, wildflowers, and trees can be
used toward this goal.
Every home is different, and the type of fertilization and re-landscaping plan that will be
best for your particular situation is best determined by visiting your home and assessing
the present conditions that prevail.
Our company provides a variety of natural fertilization products that will improve the
overall health of the soil over the long-term. With an aggressive program, you will find
that your landscape can eliminate harmful nutrient run-off, and produce more hardy turf,
plants, and trees that will resist pests and disease.
Heal and improve the soil, and the rest of the landscape will become more capable of
resisting the stresses that cause decline.
Contact us, and one of our natural landscaping and gardening specialists will visit your
property and develop an affordable program that meets the needs of your landscape.
If you already have St. Augustine as your turf, you do not have to continually rely
on regimen of synthetic chemicals, fertilizers, and pesticides, to maintain the turf.
However, you do need to ween your turf off of these harmful inputs. This is done
by paying attention to the way you water, and applying natural fertilizers in the
right amount at the correct times. |
